Berlin police chased down a young boy waving a Palestinian flag, ultimately arresting him.

Footage shows the distraught-looking boy being taken away by a large number of riot police at the edge of a pro-Palestine protest in the German capital.

Somebody explain to me how this isn't fascism.

While I am aware that the German "StaatsrΓ€son" of supporting the state of Israel "no matter what" lead to authoritarian and borderline fascist behavior, I also have to emphasize that videos like this are usually cut to hide what originally triggered the police response. Waving a Palestinian flag is perfectly ok; people do that all the time. Chanting something like "From the river to the sea" however is considered hate speech (Volksverhetzung).

@neo they're chasing a small child around, trying to rationalize this is just carrying water for the fascists.

The fact that "From the river to the sea" is considered hate speech in Germany is itself fucked up beyond belief. It's a call for liberation of people whose land was stolen and who are being genocided with the German support.

History will not look kindly upon Germans.

Hey, don't shoot the messenger. I just wanted to mention a bit of context, respectively the lack thereof. I'm not in the position to judge about the the right of existence of the state of Israel, nor the state of Palestine.

Honestly, I was expecting way worse from the Berlin police when I clicked on the video.

I have no context but I would assume that the authorities have issued conditions for the demonstration, like "no waving flags" which is quite normal business in Germany and is also done regularly on left wing as well as right wing demonstrations.

Maybe that's what triggered the Police. The video does not show what happened before the boy was chased. Maybe the Police told him to put the flag down and he just ran way.

How would you have handled the situation as the police?

In the end it looks like the boy was not harmed. The handled im gently, looks like one of the police man is checking on him if he is okay. The others are shielding him from the crowd.

The Berlin police has done far worse like using pain compliance techniques on underaged climate protestors that did not resist in any way.

@martin I think the real issue here is with the fact that Germany is making it illegal to display solidarity with the people against whom a genocide is being committed that Germany is directly complicit in.

The police are just enforcing the laws of the German regime.

You aren't getting arrested in Germany for supporting Palestinians in Germany, but for a bunch of stuff that has to do with the specific German history and the Jewish community as @NEO//LIX πŸ”Š pointed out.

Also, the German government is, by all standards, democratic. This is not German fascism.

@martin @neo yeah people absolutely are getting arrested for supporting Palestinians, and Germany has been one of the most vocals supporters of the genocide at the UN.

Also, German government is a dictatorship of capital, and it absolutely is sliding into open fascism each and every day.

They acutally issued the ID 1312 to that poor police officer. πŸ˜‚
