Raspberry PI is doing what now?

Raspberry Pi is preparing for an IPO in London for likely more than $500M. Is it common for a nonprofit to do an IPO? It seems a little bit odd. But do I know about raising money πŸ˜‚

My guess: A foundation has certain goals written into its statutes. Pursuing those goals costs money. Businesses are a way to make money.

(Also while a foundation might be non-profit, there are still working people there who like to earn money.)

Still, why buy a stock from a non-profit organization, what is the point?

@martin The Raspberry Pi foundation (non-profit) and Raspberry Pi Ltd (for-profit company) are different things.
